About Teacher Cadets

  • This blog was created for a student in a high school who is participating in the Teacher Cadet Program.

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. A secondary goal is to provide these students insights about teachers and schools so that they will be civic advocates of education.

This blog was created for the student to share learning, insights, questions, and experiences they gain as they participate in the program. Links to other classroom participants are included.

The class blog is located at: Teacher Cadets

Noise in the Classroom

How do you feel about noise in the classroom?  How do you handle noise in the classroom?

I think that noise in the classroom is a good thing as long as the students are learning.  A lot of students are teaching eachother in the classroom and you can usually tell when the noise is just noise or when the noise is learning.  If it does get too loud, there is a lot of ways to keep the class quiet.  You could do something like turn the lights off and on, blow a whistle, ring a bell, offer a prize, or anything like that.  This will challenge them, help them acomplish something, and get them back down to a level of talking that is learning not just noise.

The 1st Grade

At the elementary school I work with first grade.  When I requested my grade level I said either first grade or second grade.  I am still not sure if which one I really would like to teach later after college, but I know I don't want to go older or younger than these two grades.  Both of these grades are right after the kids start reading and doing math so I like that they know a little something and are starting to understand how to work things out for themselves.  So, I really enjoy teaching this age group and I definetly see myself teaching first or maybe second grade later on in life!

In the past two weeks I have been going to an elementary school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to help a first grade teacher.  So far I have done a lot of stuff!  I only go there for about an hour but I have already graded papers, made worksheet packets, taken lot of kids to the nurse, and given out tests.  Since this is my teacher's first year, she always has something for me to do.  In the period I help, I actually have two classes because they go to SFA.  During that class I read a lot with kids individually.  I always look forward to this everyday and it has been a very good experience so far.

First four year college to completely ban smoking?

I have a read an article about the four year college Boise State.  Many people are debating on the smoking issue and at this college their head of health services would like to ban it completely.  I think that they should ban this from many places because it's uncomfortable for a lot of people.  Some people may think they are having their rights taken away but sometimes smoking around others isn't polite.  Also, some people are allergic.  Banning smoking will make people healthier and maybe even concentrate on other things.  Please read the article and tell me what you think!

long week..

Hey!

This week has been going by very slowly.  I am counting down until Thanksgiving break when I am going to Florida.  I only have a week and a half to go but it isn't going by fast enough.  I have been very busy though with school work and a lot of projects.  Also, I have been busy with cheerleading.  I am on two teams but one was supposed to end two weeks ago.  The football squad, which was supposed to end, is still going on due to our team making playoffs.  It is very exciting, but time consuming also because I also have competition practice and the actual competitions on Saturday.  I will be ready for the week long break coming up and will definetnetly enjoy it!

But there has been a lot going on with our FGE program (Future Geogia Educators).  We have planned a lot of events to help many people.  One think I am excited about is a prom we are sponsering for people at a retirment home.  I think this will be a lot of fun and will turn out great!

Football season!

Football season is soming to an end but we have made it to playoffs!  If we win we may get to play in the GA Dome!  This will be a great experience for the team and school.  Since I am on the cheerleading team, I would get to cheer there!  I am looking forward to this because I LOVE football!  This should be fun!  What do you think?  What kind of sports are you interested in?

introduction: first post

Hey!  My name is Allie and I am in a Teacher Cadet class where we study to be teacher interns.  I am a sophmore at my high school.  In this class we have been learning about the different age groups and how to act around youger kids.  We will be going to our local elementary school to help teachers out next semester.  Once I am a senior I will be able to become a paid apprentice.

Right now I am a cheerleader and will begin to play other sports in the new season.  I have younger siblings and I love kids.  Over the summer I would like to work at camp for younger kids and continue babysitting like I have done in the past.

Later I would like to go to college in North Carolina and get my masters degree in education.  I hope to work in a first or second grade class and I am very open to any comments or suggestions to help me.
