I learned that to be a slave ia a very painful experience. Many slaves tried to run away to the north . Because the north was free states. but if you got caught running something bad would happen to you. Your ankle would get smashed. There was a lot of people that got away with out geting caoght. It you were a slave, would you try to run away knowing you could die?
I would be a bit scared but I would still try to run for freedom.
I am impressed that this had an effect on you and that you could write so well about it.
If we were all scared of getting caught ... I wonder if the United States would have the freedom it so cherishes and values today? What do you think?

Hi Sammey,
Wow, Sammey, that is a really powerful way to end your posting! What a question to make people really think! It certainly hit me in the face--
I think it's really hard to know exactly what I would do under such horrendous circumstances. I would like to think that I would take the risk and run, believing that freedom from slavery, even if that freedom was in the form of death, is the only way to live. If I had been separated from my family, especially if I had been torn from children of my own, I would be frantic to find them and would hope that someone on the Underground Railroad might help me along the way.
What about you? If you were a slave, would you try to run away knowing you could die?

Hi guys. I wouldn't run away. You see, I am a Christian, and all I want to do is honor and serve God. He tells us in the Bible that we are to submit to those who are ruling over us, and obey them. So the right choice would be to stay a slave, and serve your master with a willing heart.
I can say I would do this, because wherever God puts me, whether it be master or slave, that is the spot where He wants me to be, and the spot where He wants me to serve Him. That gives lasting peace.
Thanks.
Tim
