About Teacher Cadets

  • This blog was created for a student in a high school who is participating in the Teacher Cadet Program.

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. A secondary goal is to provide these students insights about teachers and schools so that they will be civic advocates of education.

This blog was created for the student to share learning, insights, questions, and experiences they gain as they participate in the program. Links to other classroom participants are included.

The class blog is located at: Teacher Cadets

What is the most important thing you need to be thinking about to be an excellent teacher?

I think that the most important thing you need to think about/remember to be an excellent teacher is, "how did you feel as a student in the classroom?" I know alot of students get bored easily and many times the teachers just don't care. They tend to keep going on and on weather or not you're asleep or right on track paying attention. When I become to be a teacher I want to make sure that I remember what it feels like to be bored out of my mind. I will come up with new and exciting ways to teach my students to keep them attentive and active in my classroom.

The 3rd Grade

Hummmmm, I was asked if I think that the age group that I am working with right now is what I think I want to work with in the future and my answer is "YES"!!!! The kids that I have are really great to work with. They tend to try and pull me in every direction possible and then some, but that is why I love it. They have so much energy and each and everyone of them has a great personality. They are enthusiastic about learning and they really enjoy it. When I am having a bad day and I walk into the classroom, I automatically feel better. They are great to be around, so when I one day get to choose who I want to work with, I will most definitely be working with the 3rd grade.

Hay everyone. It has been a while since I have been on this thing, but there has been alot going on!!! Over Christmas break I was supposed to move to South Carolina, but I didn't wind up moving after all.

Since I've been back I started "teaching" at an elementary school next door to my school. I am working with 3rd and 4th grade students. I am there between 8 and 9:10 in the mornings Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I help out with a program they do called S.F.A. It is a reading group type program that places the students in a class based on their reading level. It has been a great experience so far. I have all ready developed relationships with students. It is very funny because to them I am so old. I was asked one day if I was married and how long I had been teaching. It is a great feeling to know that I get to help these kids. I remember having people come into my class in elementary school and being so amazed. I guess now I have moved up the "totem poll"...and I must say that is very very cool!!!

Other than the teaching with the students I have a great teacher that I get to work with. She is very young so she has great advise. I get to see first hand what I will be going through in my first couple of years teaching. She is very nice and AWESOME to work with!!

Well, that pretty much sums up my past month. I hope to get some comments 'cuz yall know..I love 'um!!!!!

much love

My favorite teachers.....

Hummmmm, I was asked what teacher(s) I have or had that greatly impacted my life and the teachers that have changed me are....Mrs. Jackson my 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. I remember her being soooo nice. I think the thing that I liked about her the most was the fact she cared. When I was younger I was a pain in the booty and she always tried to help me. She gave me a chance to learn and grow. I think to this day she impacted my life the most.

Another set of AMAZING teachers I had were Mrs. Best and Mrs. Gaude. They were my 7th grade team teachers. In middle school I had a hard time adjusting to a new school and a new routine. My 6th grade year I had a hard time making good grades because I had to try. When I got to 7th grade Mrs. Bests and Mrs.Gaude really worked with me and helped me.They cared and showed me they cared. I respected them and they respected me. It was a great thing and I did awesome that year. I made A's and B's and then the last 9 weeks I made all A's. I was so proud and I honestly believe that I wouldnt have been able to do it without them!

Fundraisers Galore

Hey yall

Well this week so far has been pertty slow. We havent done to much but what we have done, has been fun.

Right now me, Jan, and Katie are working on prom. We are in charge of fundraisers to help our school raise $12,000. Yes that is a ton of money but we are having carwashes, raffles, and I am in charge of selling chicken biscuits on friday mornings.

This is going to be an interesting challenge, but I know that we as a student body can get it done.

Also in december I am in charge of "Love came down on Christmas." It is a program where we are going to buy needy familys Christmas presentes.

Well so far thats it.

I hope to get some comments

A great week of school??!!

Howdy yall.

Man this was the slowest week of my entire life. It seemed to drag on and on and onnnnn!!! MY GOODNESS. I think some of it had to do with the fact that I was sick this week, which stunk! But the 3 days i was here seemed to be allright. We talked about "barriers to education"; like A.D.D and behavior problems. We are going to be working on discussion questions to help us to learn more about this. I think that this packet will be very helpful because alot of times as teachers and even as students, you run across kids that are "different". When you dont know what could be wrong with them, it is very easy for you to judge them. With this packet, you can still judge but only in a good way. The type of way that can help both you and that student learn more about each other.

Well since I was sick most of this week I dont know to much about this week.

But Ill be back with new and exciting info next week

Leave me some love

Howdy yall...
I want to say thank all of yall for those great comments. It is very nice to read all of that. Alot of people are leaving the teaching profession beacuse there is no support from other people, so since i am only a teenager wanting to become a teacher all this support is an amazing and wonderful feeling. (it makes me feel so special)

Yesssss but anywho, as i was saying, we went to the confrence in Duluth on Tuesday and got introduced to alot of great schools and people. When you have such a passion for teaching and kids, its almost like the more the better!

One of the comments that I was asked was about if i had/have a great teacher who brought alot of humor into our classroom and yes i do. Her name is Mrs. P and she has the most amazing teacher. She is always laughing and smiling which makes us want to come to class and be apart of what we are learning. She takes an interest in what is going on in our lives and she is very easy to talk to. She teaches algebra 2 which is a very hard class, so beacuse she cares about us as people and not just kids in her class it is a great class to come to. I hope to be that kind of teacher who when asked about, my students smile and say they love me!!

Hummm let me see what else,...my humor. I must say that it comes pretty natural. I love to laugh and to make people laugh so when I write I say how i feel. It is so much easier to laugh and have fun with what you do than to be all stuck up. This is a learning experiance for me so I want to make it as best as I can.

Weelllpppp i think that im going to run.
Dont forget...i love dem comments!!!

ILL BE BACK!

Feeling like a real teacher!!

Hay there eveyone.

Well first i want to say that I am going to be working on this whole
"professional looking" type thing. If you happen to notice something done wrong please tell me, because i want to correct that!...Thank You!!

Anywho, this past Tuesday we went to a confrence for future teachers. The teacher of the year for Georgia in 2004 was a guest speaker which was very interesting, but unfortunitly for most of her speach i couldnt hear what she was saying. Im sure it was good though??!! It was nice being able to visit some good teaching colleges that had booths set up for us. Augusta state was there and i have heard very good things about that school, so i might have to be looking into that school.

Ahhhh i have just ran out of time, so im going to finish this up at home, so dont worry ILL BE BACK!! :) ((((i also have a GREAT since of humor)))))
