Howdy yall.
Man this was the slowest week of my entire life. It seemed to drag on and on and onnnnn!!! MY GOODNESS. I think some of it had to do with the fact that I was sick this week, which stunk! But the 3 days i was here seemed to be allright. We talked about "barriers to education"; like A.D.D and behavior problems. We are going to be working on discussion questions to help us to learn more about this. I think that this packet will be very helpful because alot of times as teachers and even as students, you run across kids that are "different". When you dont know what could be wrong with them, it is very easy for you to judge them. With this packet, you can still judge but only in a good way. The type of way that can help both you and that student learn more about each other.
Well since I was sick most of this week I dont know to much about this week.
But Ill be back with new and exciting info next week
Leave me some love

Hi Caitlin,
I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well this week. Hope you are back to 100%.
I think that what you are learning now is so important to becoming an accomplished teacher. You will positively touch so many more students’ lives when you recognize differences and ask the right questions of yourself. You will run across many kids that are "different". I fondly remember Tracey, Dorian, RC, Charles, and Jeanette. They were each different in their own way (only a few of many I cherish). Before making any judgment, I tried to look at the world through their eyes, from their perspective or through another lens so to speak. RC was a senior, labeled “learning disabled” and read at the second grade level. His teacher saw him as lazy and tired. He puts his head down in class. He won’t take home his book. I observed RC and I listened to RC. RC didn’t take home his book because he couldn’t read it. RC put his head down in class to concentrate on what was being said; he was distracted by movement and other students around him. RC came to school an hour early every morning so that I could assist him with his assignments. Had I seen him as lazy and tired too, he might not have graduated.
I am interested in what you mean when you say you can still judge them, but in a good way, a way that can help you learn more about each other. I hope you might help me understand that.
Best,
Lani

Hay Lani,
Thank you very much for my comments. I am sorry that I have never written you back, but I had no clue how to. Today was the first day that our teacher told us how to do it.
But, back to your comment....
You said something about what I mean when I said that, learning more about disorders, I will still be able to judge but only in a good way. When I said that I meant.........
You are always going to judge, no matter what, but with knowledge when ou do judge them it isnt so close-minded. You can help them more and often times they are able to teach you things.
Well thannk you very much for all the comments. I love getting them. I feel so special!! : )
thanks again
