About Teacher Cadets

  • This blog was created for a student in a high school who is participating in the Teacher Cadet Program.

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. A secondary goal is to provide these students insights about teachers and schools so that they will be civic advocates of education.

This blog was created for the student to share learning, insights, questions, and experiences they gain as they participate in the program. Links to other classroom participants are included.

The class blog is located at: Teacher Cadets

Fourth Grade!!!!!

Kids in the fourth grade can some times be a serious headache, but they can also be very  nice and lovable. I think that when i go to the elementary school in the morning it's the best part of my day. I, as a becoming teacher in the future would certainly like to work with kids in the fourth grade. I would also like to work with kids in ESOL just because of the simple reason that I feel that being an ESOL teacher can make such a big difference in so many kids lives.  So when I graduate college I would like to go in the fourth grade level of teaching.

First impressions!!!!

First impressions are always very important! Especially when you are new to a school with kids 4 or 3 years younger than you. Well I went to an elementary school with kids in the fourth grade. They are the cutes things in the world! There was one weird thing about it though , my sister in the fourth grade is in the same class that I go and help the teacher with. I think it is a little strange but it is really fun! At first I didn't know what to tell the kids but after the first 10 minutes of class I felt much better about them all! On the first day I was there, there was a boy whose name is James and he is in this program that is called S.T.A.R and it is a program for kids who are really bad and misbehaved, and the teacher asked me to work with him. At first he was shy and did everything I told him to but then, he started to ask me questions about myself and was getting distracted so I told him that he had to focus and he did! I think that the teacher saw that James was reacting in a very good way with me because he was doing his work so she told me to work with him everyday from the first day on. Now when I get there all the kids say " hey Karen," and it makes me feel good about myself and the work that I am doing there. I also get kind of upset when I leave because i ell sorry for James because when I am about to leave James asks me not to leave and to stay there with him but I have to leave! Other than that I fell great at the school. I feel grown up!

That special someone!

Have you ever thought about the one teacher that made the biggest difference in your life? I have, and its surprising how much my third and fifth grade teachers did for me. I was in ESOL and had a third and fifth grade class at the same time! I could I do it ? Easy. Mrs.Folk my life saver!  She would explain everything in a way that I could understand sinceIdid not know much English. She made a big impact on my life she thought me the English language, she would  let us play games with words in order to learn . Even thought I was 9 it seemed as though she was teaching Pre-k. It was so much fun and plus we got to learn alot and speak good English. I think that I owe Mrs.Folk everything that I am today! If it wasn't for her I would have never succeeded in life as well as I do now!

good tips

Today, we are looking through work from other students writings that are in the 5th grade. I was really impressed with how much you can learn from other students even if they are younger than me! Some of these students are very have alot of good ideas about writing and ways to improve your writing. One of the tips that really astonished me was one from Lacey that said, "try to leave the reader hanging and wondering what will come next when he or she is reading your post."  I think that that is a really good tip and i really does help people to have a much better understanding of what the writer is trying to say.

Intro to teaching!

Hi! My name is Karen. I'm a highschool student, a sophmore in the state of Georgia. I am taking this very good class that is called Into to teaching. this is a really good class if you want to be a teacher in the future. Some of the things that i do in this class are that we go over techniques on test  the little kids, which i think is really cool!I don't know the grade level that i will be working with, but i hope to work with third graders. We also attend meetings where we discuss things that we could do for the community with other schools. One of our projects was to plan a breakfast for the kids that came here from New Orleans. I think that this is the best class for becoming teachers!
