About Teacher Cadets

  • This blog was created for a student in a high school who is participating in the Teacher Cadet Program.

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. A secondary goal is to provide these students insights about teachers and schools so that they will be civic advocates of education.

This blog was created for the student to share learning, insights, questions, and experiences they gain as they participate in the program. Links to other classroom participants are included.

The class blog is located at: Teacher Cadets

Life in a first grade class

I'm working with kids at the elementary school aged 6-7. They are cute, energetic, little angels that worship you. It's kind of like having a fan club of little kids all the time you go there to work with them. The teacher I am working with is very strict, and when I come to help the kids they are overcome with happiness to escape boredom and the strict rules that don't apply to them if they are working or reading with me. Most of the time I sort papers, but do on occasion get to work with the kids. One of my problems that I have when I work with the kids is that I don't remember their names very well. They switch classes which makes it even harder for me to memorize their names. I thourougly enjoy working with the first graders, but would like to work with 5th or 6th graders.

I have recently read an very interesting article that discussed  how could we improve education of our children and students. The article explained how it is important that we give our students the best education possible because they are our future, and because they are our future we should be able to give them the best. The article also mentioned how it is important that the federal government should help out more in this problem because they can make a change financially. The schools that are on a tighter budget or comprised or poorer students might not have the best education possible, but if the federal government helps out, then you help out the students that are poor by giving them an education, and with that they can become doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, and much more. The article, to sum it up, mostly talks about how we (and others) can make a difference in our schools if we try. If you would like a change in your school or make sure that YOU are getting the best education possible, read the article and consider some of the things that they say. What really interested me in reading this article was that most people don't think that they can make a difference in they way their school is being run or the school's program, but in fact you really can.

Blooming Bloggers!

WAY TO GO BLOOMING BLOGGERS! I am very surprised at the way the Blooming Bloggers at JH House respond to blogs and the awesome tips that have created for people to use. They will certainly help me and other people. I am impressed with all the information and tips the students have writtten, but was particularly impressed with Jhonathan's tips that he written. I like the idea that when people write that they should include HOT TOPICS. I think that this is very true because you don't need to add just any topic that you know or are interested in, but a topic that will catch a person's attention and make you want to respond.  Anybody can write about the weather or why they are writing a blog in school, but to keep a reader interested you can add a simple sentence that will make your blog better. Thanks for the helpful tips, I am surely to use them.

All about Nancy

Hello, my name is Nancy and this is my first year being in a teacher cadet class. I am a junior at high school, and looking forward to a great learning experience as well as having fun. I am taking this class so I can persue a degree in speech therapy. I have worked with younger (Pre-K) kids in my other classes, but this will be a great treat. I am hoping to work will kids with speech impediments or students that have trouble learning so I can feel what it would be like to be a speech therapist prior to really becoming one.
