Mental slavery is when you have being doIing things that you know that you shouldn't do but do it anyway because you are afraid to succeed. You have no confidence. Me, Ilike to go to school and I plan to get a job, a good job as a construction worker. What are you doing to free yourself from mental slavery?
Mental slavery, as well as all other forms of slavery and suffering, are a result of sin in the world (sin is things that people do that dishonor God). Everybody is a sinner, and they suffer in various ways.
You asked, how can we free ourselves from mental slavery? Since mental slavery and all other slaveries are a result of sin in the world, and sin is against God, who do you think brings the slavery on us? God. And He is right in doing it, because we have all sinned against Him. It's what we deserve. In fact, the Bible tells us that we deserve to die for our sins.
So the real question should be, how am I saved from my sins? Because if we are made righteous (not sinners), then we can avoid the wrath and torment of suffering, because we will be right with God.
So how are we made right with God, how are we saved from our sins to avoid God's wrath? That is a good question.
Well, as sinners, we all deserve to die. So, we all would die (and go to hell, the lake of fire, the place of eternal punishment) unless someone who is pure, righteous, someone who is SINLESS would die in our place, instead of us, and take the punishment that is meant for each and every one of us.
Someone did, and that was Jesus Christ. God's Son, who He sent to earth for the very purpose of dying for all of our sins. Since Jesus was perfect, being God, His death could make atonement for (forgivness between us and God for our sins) everyone in the world. Jesus's death has the power to free everyone from all forms of slavery and death, from SIN.
But now the question is, how can I be forgiven? Well, the Bible tells us that forgiveness of sins (salvation) comes by grace through faith. It's by grace, God's grace, because we can not earn our own salvation. We can't save ourselves. We need somebody else, who is perfect (Jesus) to die for us in our place. So it is not our own work that saves us, it's God in His grace. The Bible says that we are saved through faith. Now, we do not save ourselves, but we do need to have faith in God. We need to believe that God came down to earth in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, and that He died for our sins, to take away all our sins.
You see, it's all about Jesus, all about God. He's the One who saves us.
So what have I said so far? Here's a summary:
1. Suffering is a result of sin (sin is doing things that go against God, what He tells us is right in the Bible)
2. Everyone is a sinner
3. The penalty for sin is death, and going to hell forever
4. Since we are all sinners, we cannot save ourselves from this wrath
5. Since we cannot save ourselves, we need someone who is pure, righteous, holy to die in our place and take our punishment for us. Jesus Christ did that for everyone when He died.
6. So Jesus died for us. So how do we trust in Him and His sacrifice to pay for our sins?
7. The Bible tells us that we are saved by God's grace, through faith
8. So how do we get this grace and faith?
9. It's God's grace (free gift to us, we don't earn it) that He sent His only Son to die for us.
10. We need to have faith (believe in) His sacrifice. That what the Bible says is true, completely true, and that Jesus really did die for us.
11. So now what? After we believe?
12. We are still sinners. What do we need to do to be saved, if we believe?
13. We need to repent of our sins, ask God to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all of our wrongdoing against Him.
God says in His word, the Bible, that if we
1. Believe in His free gift of grace and love, the death of Jesus Christ to pay for our sins
2. Repent of our sins, and ask forgiveness for them
3. Ask God to make us a Christian
He will.
So why is this important?
1. If we are a Christian, we don't go to hell when we die
2. Instead of going to hell, we go to heaven
(NOTE you can read the Bible to find out all about what heaven and hell are like. Heaven is where God is. There is everlasting joy in heaven with God, but there is everlasting pain and suffering in hell)
So we need salvation. We all need to be saved from our sins.
I am sharing this with you, because God has saved me from my sins. He has rescued me from death and punishment, and allowed me to be His servant.
Now all I want to do is honor and serve Him in all that I do.
God gives peace and joy, and strength to deal with trials, to go through them. Just because you're a Christian doesn't mean you won't go through trials, but God gives us the power to trust in Him in all our trials, to pray to Him and ask for guidance. He wil give us all peace and joy. He is merciful, and gracious to Christians.
I just want to encourage you to try to understand this. It may seem like a whole load of rubbish, but it's not. I pray that God will open your eyes to His truth, allow you to see who He is and trust in Him for salvation.
If you have any questions about any of this, please just let me know and I will give you and answer for my hope.
Thanks.
Tim
