First impressions are always very important! Especially when you are new to a school with kids 4 or 3 years younger than you. Well I went to an elementary school with kids in the fourth grade. They are the cutes things in the world! There was one weird thing about it though , my sister in the fourth grade is in the same class that I go and help the teacher with. I think it is a little strange but it is really fun! At first I didn't know what to tell the kids but after the first 10 minutes of class I felt much better about them all! On the first day I was there, there was a boy whose name is James and he is in this program that is called S.T.A.R and it is a program for kids who are really bad and misbehaved, and the teacher asked me to work with him. At first he was shy and did everything I told him to but then, he started to ask me questions about myself and was getting distracted so I told him that he had to focus and he did! I think that the teacher saw that James was reacting in a very good way with me because he was doing his work so she told me to work with him everyday from the first day on. Now when I get there all the kids say " hey Karen," and it makes me feel good about myself and the work that I am doing there. I also get kind of upset when I leave because i ell sorry for James because when I am about to leave James asks me not to leave and to stay there with him but I have to leave! Other than that I fell great at the school. I feel grown up!
Hi Karen,
I am so glad to hear your first impressions! I imagine it is a bit strange to have your sister in class. How does she feel about you being her teacher?
Your work with James sounds so rewarding! I wondered, do you supposed James sometimes is appropriate because the work maybe be too difficult and he doesn't want anyone to know that? Do you think that might be why he is unhappy to see you go, because he knows you are helping him?
I am so glad you are enjoying your time in the classroom; you are on your way to becoming a teacher!
Best,
Lani

Isn't it interesting that you are in the class with your sister? I think that is special and hopefully, fun, too. James is so lucky that you are working with him. It's so much easier to "turn students around" when they are young.

Lani,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Yes, it is very wierd to have to work with my sister. At first i didn't know how to react but than i saw it as a good thing because I can see where my sister is struggling and help her. About James well I am pretty sure that he can do the work but he needs someone to tell him and stay there while he is doing the work. Well thank you for you comment!
