This week my class was given a list of questions and we had to pick one to answer.
The question I picked was, "How do you give your students recognition? Do you think a student can have too much recognition?"
One way my teacher and I give recogntion is if a student is doing their work and following directions the teacher will usually make it known to the whole class by saying something like, "I love the way so-and-so is doing their work." When all the students hear that not opnly does it make that one student feel good but it also makes all of the other studens start to do their work. Another way to give recognition is to display the students' work around the room whenever they do a good job.
To answer the second question I think that it is possible to give a child too much recognition. I think that if you recognize one child all the time other kids in the class might get discouraged, because they may not be as smart as that one kid and they might stop trying and give up.
Do you know of any other ways to recognize children in the classroom? Can you think of any ways to prevent children from getting discouraged if children are recognized more than they are?
